Locate by Street Address

The primary purpose of keeping the Postal Address database is to be able to find an address on the map. The Locate->Street Address menu choice's dialog accepts a house number (or name, for countries that use building names), a street name, a city (or town or village) name, and/or a postal code (e.g., zip code for the United States).

Any part can be omitted, and the address parts provided are matched as case-insensitive partial strings; for example, specifying "1st" for the street would match both "1st Street" and "21st Avenue", but would not match "First Road" or "Highway 1". The search will only cover the geographical area covered by the pan and zoom of the map window that was used to open the "Locate by Street Address" dialog.

Any found matches will be displayed in the order of their distance from the center of the map window. A row can be clicked on to pan and zoom the map to display the specific selected match.
